CONTEXT
Timeline: Jan - Apr 2022 (4 months) | Team: 4 members | Roles: UX Researcher, UX Designer
OBJECTIVE
In a semester-long project with UM’s Design Clinic, our team collaborated with the University of Michigan - Flint to inform a redesign of their library website.
PROBLEM
As a regional campus library, UM-Flint’s Thompson Library is small but has access to resources disproportionate to its size. This often results in information/cognitive overload as librarians try to promote as many resources as possible. The challenge is to display the most relevant resources while still making it clear and accessible the depth and breadth of options.
The goal is to improve the website’s information architecture, visual appearance, accessibility, and overall user experience.
NEXT STEPS
This project is currently in progress. Our next steps include…
A formal report on the current trends and best practices in academic library website UX/design
Usability test plan and guidelines including tasks, scenarios, and user personas
Wireframes or low-fidelity prototypes of the redesigned website
